Very Early Dinner Plate
Very Early Dinner Plate
$129.00
Oval dinner plates were not part of the Peter Pots line until we moved to the Glen Rock Mill in 1954. This is one of the earliest dinner plates we have found, and we see a great many. This is in Mahogany Brown glaze, which faded into a light blue and off-white during this era. It simply has the look of early Peter Pots, with specks, inclusions, and imperfections. The clay body is a light tan color, typical of the mid-1950s clay formula. The signature is not one we are familiar with. Plates see a lot of use, so very few early ones survive; this one did. It shows some light scratches and wear commensurate with being 70 years old, but no chips or cracks; it still rings like a bell. 11.5” x 10”.
