Here’s a beautiful example of the familiar mid-century rectangular ashtray design that was made from the late 1940s through the 1960s. This one is from the mid-1950s, made in Kingston after 1954. It is unusual in that it has Mahogany Brown glaze over a heavy application of white, and when fired it came out light brown with hints of soft blues and greens. The signature is consistent with other pieces from the mid-1950s, as is the pattern on the back from the perforated kiln shelves used at the time. Over 70 years old and in perfect and seemingly unused condition. Heavy and solid, weighing one-and-a-half pounds, 6 3/4” x 6 3/4”.
